The American Federation of Aviculture recently became aware of a proposal by a private agent encouraging the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to consider new, more restrictive legislation for CITES Appendix I. As a result the AFA has begun an information gathering campaign about captive CITES I birds in the U.S.
Since many aviculturists are unaware of the census/survey or, perhaps, of the general structures of the government agencies involved, Adventures in Aviculture has put together these few pages which include a page identifying the Appendix I psittacines. There are other avian species included in Appendix I, exotic and native, as well as other plants and animals, but the concern here is only related to captive exotic birds, the majority of which are psittacines.
Please support the AFA.
